2. Focus Shift

In addition to the 20-20-20 rule, you can incorporate a focus shift exercise into your routine. This exercise is easy and can be done anywhere:

  • Sit comfortably and hold one finger about 10 cm (4 inches) from one eye.
  • Focus your gaze on your finger.
  • Slowly move your finger away from your face while continuing to focus on it.
  • Shift your focus to a distant object, then return to your finger.
  • Repeat this sequence three times.

3. Basic Eye Movements

This simple eye exercise can be done by both children and adults. Here’s how:

  • Close your eyes
  • Move them slowly upward, then downward, repeating this motion three times.
  • Next, move your eyes slowly to the left and then to the right, also repeating three times.

4. Tracing the Number 8

A fun and easy way to relieve eye strain is by tracing an imaginary number 8. Follow these steps:

  • Sit comfortably and focus on a spot on the floor about 3 meters (10 feet) ahead of you.
  • Using your eyes, trace an imaginary number 8 on its side (the infinity symbol).
  • Continue tracing for 30 seconds, then change direction.

 

Tips for Maintaining Eye Health

Maintaining eye health is crucial for preventing infections and other visual disorders. Along with regular eye exercises, here are some lifestyle habits that can help keep your eyes healthy:

  • Incorporate green leafy vegetables, eggs, nuts, beans, and fatty fish into your diet.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Protect your eyes from harmful UV rays by wearing UV-blocking sunglasses.
  • When engaging in activities such as sports or any tasks that pose a risk to your eyes, wear protective glasses.
  • Avoid staring at screens for long periods. 
  • Perform tasks in well-lit environments.
  • Get regular eye check-ups.

 

Eye exercises can be a helpful way to relieve the discomfort associated with eye strain. However, they are not a solution for more serious vision problems.
