Women need health screening to monitor their health conditions and detect any health problems early. Some common health conditions experienced by women, such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and thyroid disorders, are often missed without screening.

Health screening helps in early detection of certain health conditions and provides appropriate treatment and preventive measures.

Here are some common health screenings that women should have done, including:

High blood pressure screening

Women need a high blood pressure test, as high blood pressure is one of the common health problems that women experience, especially after the age of 40. High blood pressure can lead to various health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

High blood pressure in women can also affect health during pregnancy. High blood pressure during pregnancy can cause serious complications to the pregnant mother and fetus, such as a severe pregnancy complication that causes high blood pressure (preeclampsia), premature birth, and fetal growth retardation.

Bone strength test

Bone strength tests are useful for monitoring bone health and early detection of osteoporosis or other health conditions related to low bone strength. Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become brittle and prone to fracture, which is more common in women, especially after menopause.

Women who have risk factors for osteoporosis, are over 50 years old, have a family history of osteoporosis, an unhealthy lifestyle such as smoking or lack of exercise, or have a history of certain medications that can affect bone health are advised to get a bone strength test.

Breast cancer screening

It is important for women to get breast cancer screening, as breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women worldwide. Breast cancer screening is a test done to detect the presence of breast cancer in women before there are obvious symptoms.

Breast cancer screening is recommended for women who have risk factors for breast cancer, are over 40 years old, have a family history of breast cancer, or have a history of conditions that may increase the risk of breast cancer, such as certain genetic conditions.

Cervical cancer screening

Cervical cancer screening includes pap smears and HPV tests, which are two important tests used to prevent and detect cervical cancer early. These tests help identify abnormal cell changes in the cervix and prevent the development of cervical cancer.

A pap smear involves taking a sample of cells from the cervix to check whether or not the cells are normal. The HPV test is done to check for a virus that can cause cervical cancer (human papillomavirus, or HPV) in the cervix.

The combination of a pap smear and HPV test can provide more accurate results in early detection of abnormal cell changes in the cervix and the risk of cervical cancer. Screening with a pap smear and HPV test is recommended for women starting from the age of 21 years or starting from the age of 25 years, depending on the medical guidelines in each country.

In addition to these common screenings, colorectal cancer testing, diabetes screening, HIV/AIDS screening, cholesterol screening, sexually transmitted disease screening, and more are also recommended.
