Recently, more people have joined the shampoo-less movement. This movement is done not only as a concern for the environment because it can prevent shampoo chemicals from polluting the environment, but it is also claimed to help nourish the hair.

Shampooing without shampoo means that you wash your hair using only water or other shampoo substitutes such as herbal tea, yogurt, baking soda, coconut oil, or apple cider vinegar. Not everyone is on the same page with this movement, some argue that you should still wash your hair with shampoo. So, are there any benefits to washing your hair without shampoo? Benefits of Washing Hair Without Shampoo

There are many reasons people support the no-shampoo movement. One of them is to reduce the use of chemicals in daily life, avoid the loss of natural oils on the scalp, or protect the environment because it can reduce plastic waste from shampoo packaging. In addition, some wash their hair without shampoo because they can save money.

 

Shampooing without using shampoo itself is said to have several potential benefits on the hair, such as:

  • Balances oil production on the scalp
  • Makes hair look shinier, and voluminous, and has better texture
  • Reduces the need for styling products as hair is naturally maintained
  • Reduces exposure of hair to certain chemicals present in shampoos
  • Breaks the dependency on additional products to maintain the natural moisture of hair

 

 

Is it Better to Use Shampoo or Not?

Whether you shampoo or not depends on your preference and hair type. Oily, normal or dry hair types each have different ways of cleansing and grooming.

Beforehand, it's important to understand that the shampoo-free movement is not suitable for everyone. Shampooing may be suitable for certain hair types such as curly hair, hair with a large shaft, or coarse hair. These hair types are prone to dryness so when shampooing without shampoo, the natural oils produced by the scalp can help make hair softer. For those with thin and fine hair types, washing hair without shampoo might be less suitable since this hair tends to get more oily. 

If you still want to use shampoo, then choose a shampoo that is designed for the needs of your hair. The frequency of shampooing can also vary slightly depending on your hair type. If your hair is oily, you may need to shampoo more often. But if your hair is dry, you are not advised to shampoo every day.
