Everyone has their own approach to facial cleansing. Some opt for the quick and easy method of washing their face with soap and water, while others prefer to remove their makeup before bed using only cleansing oil.
Double cleansing has recently gained popularity as a skincare routine. This method is effective in thoroughly cleansing the skin, helping to prevent acne and enhancing overall skin health.
Understanding Double Cleansing and Its Benefits
Double cleansing involves using two different types of cleansers in succession. The first step employs an oil-based cleanser or micellar water to remove makeup, sunscreen, and oil-bound impurities.
The second step involves cleansing the skin with a water-based cleanser. This step removes any remaining oil and dirt after the initial cleanse, leaving the skin fresh and free from oil residue.
The primary purpose of double cleansing method is to provide a deeper clean than a single cleansing step alone. This method also helps prepare the skin to better absorb subsequent skincare products, such as serums, moisturizers, or anti-aging creams, more effectively.
Double Cleansing Steps
Step 1: Cleanse with an oil-based cleanser or micellar water
- ispense a small amount of the oil-based cleanser onto your palm or a cotton pad
- Evenly apply it to your dry face, massaging in circular motions to dissolve and lift makeup, sunscreen, and oil-bound impurities
- Rinse your face with warm water to remove the first cleanser’s residue
Step 2: Cleanse with a water-based cleanser
- Dispense a water-based cleanser into your palm and apply it to your damp face
- Gently massage in circular motions to remove any remaining dirt
- Rinse your face with warm water, ensuring no cleanser residue remains
- Pat your face dry with a clean towel
After completing the second cleansing step, your skin is primed to absorb the next skincare products, such as toner, serum, moisturizer, or anti-aging treatments. Double cleansing can be done daily, especially at night, to remove accumulated makeup and dirt. In the morning, a single cleansing step is usually sufficient.
By regularly following these steps, you can keep your skin clean, refreshed, and better prepared to benefit from your skincare products.
If you encounter skin issues that are difficult to resolve with at-home skincare products, consider consulting a doctor or dermatologist for further evaluation and advice. You can also take advantage of health consultation services by downloading the Ai Care app from the App Store or Play Store.
