F45 Workout: Benefits, Effectiveness, and What to Expect

Fitness training is gaining popularity among the general public. With an increasing variety of exercises available to build stamina and muscle, one standout option is the F45 class, which originated in Australia. What is F45 workout like, and how effective is it for weight loss? Check out the reviews below.

What is the F45 workout?

F45 was created in 2011 by entrepreneurs Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsch. They founded a fitness studio franchise in the United States, which has since expanded to several countries. The term F45 stands for functional training, tailored to mimic the body's movements in daily activities, and the number 45 represents the workout duration of 45 minutes.

F45 workouts are a hybrid of circuit training and HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), combining cardio and strength exercises that mimic everyday movements.

The F45 studio is equipped with a variety of fitness tools, including ropes, kettlebells, spin bikes, dumbbells, barbells, plates, platforms, and other HIIT-style workout equipment. Some F45 classes also incorporate music to energize participants.

Each F45 workout has a unique name, such as Miami Nights, Moonhopper, Tokyo Disco, or Triple Threat, and each follows a slightly different variation of the 45-minute high-intensity interval format. Instructors and on-screen videos guide participants through the exercises, with movements progressing from one station to the next in a circuit.

Is the F45 workout effective for weight loss?

According to Verywell Fit, F45 founder Rob Deutsch stated that the workout can burn 500 to 800 calories, a significant amount to aid in weight loss. The total number of calories burned varies based on exercise intensity, diet, body weight, and other factors.

F45 workouts also include an app that monitors and records your diet and heart rate, tailored to the difficulty of the class you select or the goals of your exercise program. To enhance weight loss results, follow the app's diet and calorie-logging recommendations.

Advantages and disadvantages of F45 workout

Before trying the F45 workout, consider the following pros and cons:

Use of screens for training guidance

During an F45 workout, you will see several large-screen TVs showing various exercises. Some people find this helps them focus, while others may find it boring to stare at the screen.

Efficient workout

F45 workouts are intensive, providing a full-body workout in a short period of time. Almost all exercises involve compound movements requiring stability and the use of body weight. In 45 minutes, you engage more muscle groups than in other strength training programs.

Short warm-up with no cool-down

The warm-up in F45 workout is quite brief, lasting about 2.5 minutes, with jumping movements starting about 1 minute in. For beginners, this warm-up may not be enough, especially given the intensity of the workout. Furthermore, there is no cool-down period included, so it is advisable to warm up and cool down independently to avoid injury.

F45 workouts are becoming more common in Indonesian fitness centers. Many people choose this workout to lose weight and gain muscle efficiently. Given its challenging nature, it is best to consult an instructor before starting.

If you need medical advice or consultation, you can either visit a doctor or make use of the consultation features that are available in the Ai Care application by downloading the Ai Care application from the App Store or Play Store.
